Waking up after surgery

Lilly stirred in her sterile, white bed. She had just come out of major surgery and hurt all over. She opened her eyes painfully and looked around. She couldn't move her head and half her body was heavily casted. She looked around in shock wondering where she was as she started to panic. She whimpered at the pain and tried to look round. Breathing frantically.

JD had sat in the corner. He was supposed to be off duty but due to his love for his job he usually put in extra hours for free. He looked up as Lilly awoke and walked up to her bed. "Dont worry. It'll be okay."

Lilly looked up and stared in shock. She started screaming an ear-splitting scream. She kept screaming and didn't stop.

J.D held his hands over his ears as the scream was painfull. He tried to comfort the girl but his attempts were futile. He ran out into the corridor. "I need some help here!" He shouted, hoping for someone to help.

Chase was at that point walking out of the patients room opposite Lilly's. "What's going on?" he asked Dr. Dorian, speaking loudly so as to be heard over the screaming.

"I don't know! There's something wrong! She wont stop!" He said, also in a loud voice. "I think she's in pain." He added, running down the corridor away from Chase and the screaming child

Chase stood there for several moments, feeling rather confused. Walking into the room, he resisted the urge to cover his ears from the screaming, as that would probably not help the situation. Upon opening the door and walking in he saw Lilly, the one who seemed to be the source of the screaming. "Are you okay?" he asked, not knowing what to expect in response, the other Doctor's information on her case being pretty vague.

Lilly eventually stopped screaming and started whimpering. She was in extreme pain and couldn't take much more of it. "It hurts!" She cried, unable to see anyone in the room. She tried to struggle but the strong cast stood solid against the strains of her fragile body.

"Is Dr. Dorian the one treating you?" Chase asked slowly, hovering by the door, not really sure of what to do, given that he couldn't really do much, seeing as he was not the girls Doctor, "I'll page him to up your pain meds. Make it hurt less."

Lilly stopped struggling and breathed slowly. Her young mind working frantically. "Am I in hospital again?" She asked, her voice hoarse from the surgery on her neck.

"Yeah, your in hospital," Chase said simply, getting out his pager from his pocket, and typing out a quick message to JD, requesting for him to come here, and deal with his patient, then pressing the send button, "You'll probably be better in no time though, so its nothing to worry about."

"I haven't got a Doctor yet." Lilly muttered quietly, attempting to see Chase. "I have only just come in." She knew what she was talking about, she had been to hospital many times before.

"Oh. Oh, I see," Chase said, putting the pager back into his pocket, frowning, "Well, I'll forward on the message to one of the more senior Doctors. Have you just come out of surgery?"

Lilly nodded, happy with what she had achieved. "Yep. I just woke up." She said proudly, smiling through a large gap in her mouth where her 2 front teeth once were.

"Brilliant, you've got the worst bit over with then," Chase said approvingly, smiling, "So, what are you in here for?"

Lilly went quiet as she remembered what had happened. Her mommy had gotten drunk again and Lilly had been practising singing again. Her mother then came upstairs shouting at Lilly, screaming that it was all her fault. Her fault that her mother was the way she was. This made Lilly cry and that made it worse. Her Mommy shouted she would give Lilly something to cry about and grabbed her by the hair, punched her in the face and threw her, by the hair down the stairs and little Lilly lay huddled in a bloody mass at the bottom.

"I...fell down the stairs." She muttered quietly, her smile faltering

"Ah. Well, you'll be better soon," Chase said reassuringly, wandering what her sudden look of discomfort was about, seeing as she hadn't been too bothered about the whole idea of being in surgery earlier. "So, you must be looking forward to leaving this place," he said brightly, changing the subject, "You'll probably be able to leave in a day or two."

"Oh, okay." She murmered, her face falling further. Compared to home, she much prefered it here. The people were nicer and she wasn't living in constant fear.

Chase felt rather puzzled at why she sounded and looked so disappointed at hearing that, seeing as most people would be thrilled to have such a short stay at hospital. "Would you rather stay here a bit longer?" Chase asked, feeling rather confused, "D'ya think you need longer to recover?"

Lilly looked up brightly "Yes please" She smiled again, looking happy once more. "Thank you Mister" She giggled with relief.

"No problem," Chase said, utterly bewildered by the girls behaviour. It really did seem rather odd, "I'll go and discuss it with my boss, you staying here a bit longer. So I'll probably see you again in about half an hour."

Lilly tried to nod but couldn't due to the cast. "Okay. Thank you." She said again, immensly happy. She liked this hospital. The Doctors were all really friendly and everyone treated her nicely.

Chase smiled, opening the door to walk through, "So, see you later," he said, planning on talking about this to one of his co workers, seeing as the situation seemed to confused him. It really did seem odd to be so over the moon to be told that you were going to stay in hospital longer.

"Bye!" She called lightly, waving her good arm weakly, smiling to herself now she knew she got to stay here.

"Cya," Chase said back, closing the door behind him. He'd decided that it would probably be best to go to either Cameron or House about this, seeing as Foreman would probably just shrug it off as nothing.
